Six years ago today we released our 18-track compilation called First Taste of the Morning! This was one of my first encounters with the industry standard of printing a 10% over/under run. I ordered 1,000 CDs and got 1,100 back. Now, there are less than 30 copies left!
This release is special to me for a few reasons. One is the amount of songs I was able to put on it by Valencia, Over It, The Hush Sound, Park, and two little known bands at the time called All Time Low and The Swellers.
Another reason worth mentioning is that it reminds me of my time living in Clawson Michigan (near Detroit) and has my old P.O. box address. Like The Prize Fight’s The Process EP, it was partially funded by can collecting the night before garbage day.
We need to make room for our upcoming releases and other projects, so I posted over a dozen items (CDs, t-shirts, & vinyl) on sale in our online store!

Kim N. from Australia has been an incredible supporter of TDR for awhile now. I can practically recite her full name and address when prompted. She recently completed her collection of all our releases—including Delightfully Pleased on vinyl! It’s crazy to think that something on my shelf is sitting on another shelf halfway around the world. Now, I need to rattle my dags and release another album so she can enjoy it when she chucks a sickie.

The Anniversary Process Of The Prize Fight

The Prize Fight were the first official band signed to TDR way back in the fall of 2005. A few months later we released The Process CD/EP and it’s still one of my favorite records—ever.
Today marks the EPs fifth anniversary, wow! Listen to “Now or Never” for the first time or for the first time in awhile above. I’ll be jamming the entire record at least a handful of times today.

If You Saw .10¢ On The Ground, Would You Pick It Up?
While living outside of Detroit, MI a few years ago, I would pick up bottles and cans off the street to help fund my record label. This aided the release of one of my favorite albums to date, The Prize Fight The Process EP.
Now before you say “That’s disgusting!” I was actually helping out the environment by recycling what otherwise would have went into garbage cans. I got plenty of exercise walking around in parks, neighborhoods, high school football fields, and the occasional lawn post-house party (cha-ching!). Sometimes I would even bump into people like me who were doing the same thing, chit-chat about how silly people are when it comes to recycling, but in the end never give up our gold mine locations to one another.
But on a serious note, I did what I had to do to help my business grow. I was in school at the time and needed a way to finance my label while still maintaining full control over it. When you run a small business, you constantly have to think outside of the box and find creative ways to make it work. And I did just that, one can at a time.
